Pharmaceutical industry has recently yielded one more medicine that is designed to help people lose weight. The process of weight loss has always been complicated for obese and overweight people who are not usually able to achieve good results without the help of certain medications.
Contrave is a weight loss medication that appeared on the market in 2014 after several clinical trials were successfully carried out.
Being a combination of two drugs – Bupropion and Naltrexone – Contrave helps minimize the quantity of food a person needs daily which together with adequate physical exercise leads to weight loss.
Separately Bupropion and Naltrexone are not used to fight obesity, as Bupropion is a medication prescribed to patients who suffer from depressions, while Naltrexone is used to help patients overcome addictions, such as opiate or alcohol addiction. Due to the fact that these drugs affect the nervous system directly, they may cause numerous severe side effects, so Contrave should be taken very carefully, and only under the specialist’s supervision. Although one of Contrave ingredients is an antidepressant and the other is used to treat addictions, Contrave should not be taken in order to fight depression, quit smoking or get rid of any other kind of addiction.
During trials and clinical studies it has not been proved that Contrave weight loss drug is a medication that causes fat burning, but it is known that it suppresses appetite due to its direct action on the nervous system. In addition to this it is considered that the weight loss pill boosts metabolism and raises internal body temperature, two factors that are known to be triggering in the process of fat burning.
After several clinical studies carried out in order to analyze whether Contrave diet pill is an efficient medication, the FDA approved the drug, which means that the medication is considered safe and now it can be available for people who have a prescription
Clinical studies have shown that Contrave can help people lose some of their weight, but it is strongly recommended that it is combined with a low-calorie diet and physical activity as this will yield better results than the pills alone. Although the results of the trials have proved to be successful, more clinical studies are required in order to carry out an in-depth analysis of all the effects the drug has or can have on the patient’s body and their psychological state.
Several clinical studies were conducted both on the drug itself and on patients with a Body Mass Index of 27 or more.
The drug trials showed that Contrave is an efficient medication that leads to people losing some of their weight when used correctly. As opposed to the placebo group, the group of patients who were taking Conrave lost from 3 to 7% of their weight, the fact that proves the indisputable effectiveness of the medicine.
In spite of such encouraging results, the studies have also revealed the undesirable side effects that the patients experienced. The most common side effect was nausea and for many patients it became the reason for interrupting the treatment.
Nevertheless it is clear that Contrave is a promising medication that can become a real help for the people who have been unsuccessful in fighting obesity.
The second undertaken study was of a large scale and it included 1742 overweight and obese men and women from the age of 18 to 65. This study also proved the efficiency of Contrave because the patients who were being treated with Contrave showed a significant drop in their body weight as compared to the placebo group. The fact that the trial involved such a big number of people of different sex and ages adds to the value and the reliability of this study.
This second study also revealed the certain side effects in people treated with Contrave, the most common being nausea, headaches, dizziness and blood pressure increase.
A great number of Contrave reviews have more or less detailed information on this drug, and many of them support the same conclusion that the number of side effects produced by this drug is above average, the most commonly encountered being nausea.
Other Contrave side effects are much more serious.
As one of Contrave’s components is Bupropion that is used in the treatment of depression, the side effects produced by this drug are of psychological nature. These include depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety. The patients might also suffer from insomnia and headaches – the side effects that are also considered to be brought about by Bupropion.
Another component – Naltrexone – can also be the cause of psychological side effects such as behaviour changes as well as of physiological ones.
It is crucial that every person who is about to start the treatment with Contrave is aware of all side effects that can appear during the treatment period. In order to avoid severe health problems the patient must address a qualified physician who will ascertain whether it is advisable for them to start taking Contrave.
It must be pointed out that in order to procure Contrave the patient must have a prescription. In such a way the patient can be sure that they will be given a proper dosage of the medicine that will not harm their health. The usually prescribed final dosage of Contrave is two pills twice a day, but, of course, it varies from person to person, depending on their initial health condition.
Contrave should be taken with care and the patient should announce their doctor if they have or had any of these medical conditions:
- Depression or any kind of other mental disorders
- Head injuries
- Suicide attempts
- Low or high blood sugar
- High blood pressure
- Alcohol or any other kind of addiction
- Liver or kidney problems
Pregnant or breastfeeding women must not take Contrave.
The patient should also let their physician know about all the medicines they are currently taking or were taking in the nearest past as Contrave might be incompatible with some drugs and thus cause severe side effects.
In order to avoid any health problems the consultation with a qualified specialist is a must, only in this case the patient can be sure that the risks to their health are minimal.
Contrave weight loss drug is one of the hottest topics in the weight loss category at the moment. It has been introduced fairly recently and many people are still uncertain about the benefits this medication may provide compared to other drugs from the same class. At the same time, there are many users who report great results after going through the course of Contrave diet. In this situation, it’s certainly very helpful to learn the entire spectrum of opinions about this new medication before you consider buying and using it. Fortunately, there is a growing number of sites where you can read both in-depth and brief Contrave reviews by users and medical experts alike, and form your own objective opinion regarding the drug.
What concerns most people about Contrave is the way the normal dosage may interact with other drugs, substances or cause any negative side-effects. And by reading the reviews you will find that in each case the effects will be very subjective and individual, varying from absolute satisfaction to total dissatisfaction. This is very important, since you will be able to learn more than just the advertising materials will tell you. So, what is the usual spectrum of opinions regarding Contrave and how they can help you lose weight effectively?
Many people report great results after the first few weeks taking Contrave as part of their weight loss program. Most of the users providing positive feedback for the drug report at least several to more than a dozen of pounds lost during the first month of using it. Take note, however, that the majority of these users have incorporated Contrave into their optimized diet and exercise program, instead of taking the drug on its own. This is the most important aspect of using the medication effectively, which many people seem to overlook. Contrave won’t do miracles, nor will it burn your fat without any input on your end. Being an appetite suppressant, it will only make you want to eat less, which is crucial for anyone on a diet. However, if you really want to lose weight, there’s way of doing it other than adopting a low-calorie diet and exercising regularly.
In order to help people with weight loss, there’s also the Contrave Scale Down program, developed specifically with users in mind. This program consists of a personalized feedback sent by the service, that also gives you a digital scale you have to use on a daily basis. When you weight in each day, the service sends you a message after analyzing the data sent by the digital scale, and at the end of each week you will receive a set of personalized recommendations according to your current progress. This is something like having a personal weight loss consultant, but without the ridiculous fees an actual professional will cost you. When combining this service with proper Contrave dosing, diet and physical activity, it may work wonders and help you lose significant amounts of weight over a short period of time.
On the other hand, there is also a large number of reviews containing negative opinions regarding the drug. Most of these contain detailed descriptions of various side-effects manifesting when the writer started using the drug. From constipation and nausea, to vomiting and constant headaches, the list of potential adverse reactions while taking Contrave is rather extensive. What’s surprising, however, is the fact that most of the users, who have experienced such reactions, have never addressed their doctor to discuss these effects and address them properly. Moreover, since it’s very easy to purchase Contrave online without any prescription these days, most people actually don’t consult with their physicians even before taking the drug. And this, in fact, poses a huge health risk.
Contrave is a prescription medication that affects the central nervous system. So, naturally, there’s a long list of contraindications for this drug, which includes history of mental disorders, substance abuse, seizures and many other conditions. Besides, a large number of medications and substances will interact with Contrave, especially the ones affecting the central nervous system on their own. For example, there’s a strong suggestion to avoid mixing Contrave and alcohol, since such combination may lead to serious side-effects. Therefore, when considering a course of this new weight loss drug it is very important to consult with your doctor and make sure that all the drugs you’re taking an a regular basis are safe to combine with Contrave. If there’s even a single medication that poses a risk of harmful interaction with Contrave, you should consider either seeking an alternative to it, stop using it for a period of time, or do without Contrave. Otherwise, the adverse effects will make your experience very unpleasant, miserable and counterproductive. And, unfortunately, there’s quite a lot of people who report negative experience with Contrave namely because there were not careful enough and didn’t take the time to learn whether it’s safe for them to take the drug in the first place.
To sum it all up, it’s really helpful reading the experiences of different people taking Contrave. Each person is different, and so will be the results from taking the drug. Some will have great weight loss achievements, others, unfortunately, will experience some side-effects, and that’s normal. That’s exactly how all drugs work, and it’s perfectly normal when a certain percentage of users experiences unpleasant effects, while others enjoy the full benefit of the medicine, and Contrave is no exceptions. That’s why it’s quite helpful to read all the reviews, both good and bad, in order to form a comprehensive picture of what the drug may deliver and be ready for any case scenario.

On March 8th, 2016 my weight was 253 lbs. During the first weeks I lost 13 lbs and wasn’t really bothered by the side effects. I didn’t exercise much during this period. I was able to lose weight without exercising, which was really motivating for me to start doing some exercise and lose even more weight. I recommend this medication to those who do not really like working out.

I have problems with my thyroid and losing weight is a problem for me. My doctor recommended me Contrave in the hope that it would trigger the process of weight loss. I had been taking it for a month and a half and stopped. Just as I started taking it, I began feeling sick and anxious. I got to the point when I was taking 4 pills per day, but the only effect I felt was eating a bit less than before. I didn’t lose any weight. I even put on a few lbs. I was constipated all the time and even as I ate a lot of vegetables and drank a lot of water, nothing helped.
I simply love this medication. When I started taking it, my weight was more than 170 lbs and now I weigh 134. The only side effect I experienced was constipation which I tried to fight drinking a lot of water. I have been using this medication for 2 years. I feel amazing.

It is my fourth week of treatment and I am now taking 2 pills in the morning and 2 pills in the evening. I haven’t lost an ounce during all this time. It is very frustrating. I was so excited when my doctor recommended it to me. I was already working out at the gym 3 times a week and hoped the medicine would be a good boost. But after I started taking it, I have been feeling permanently tired and sometimes fuzzy. If I don’t feel any changes during another month, I will stop taking it.
It is my third week of the treatment and I have already lost 11 pounds and I was so excited when I saw the result. Except for a little constipation, I didn’t experience any adverse reactions, but 2 days ago I started clenching my jaw and later being anxious. I know that these are the effects of Bupropion. I don’t feel good at all now, I am quite nervous. I am disappointed as I had great results and now it looks like I will have to stop taking it.
I lost 5 lbs in the first 5 days – the drug definitely helps! I haven’t had constipation like many people who take Contrave, but, on the other hand, I don’t eat gluten. I felt anxious and experienced mood swings, but it is kind of normal for me as I suffer from depression and bipolar disorder.
I started taking Contrave a week ago as I couldn’t achieve the effect I wanted only by working out. My usual working out schedule is 3 times a week, sometimes 4-5 times. I try to eat healthy, but my problem is that I eat big portions and snack late at night. With Contrave I lost 8 lbs in just 6 days and this is a great result for me.
I am on Contrave treatment for a little more than a week and I am taking one pill in the morning and one in the evening now. I started exercising the very first day and lost about 8 lbs during the first week, I simply don’t feel hungry. No side effects noticed yet, so I definitely recommend this medication.
I have been taking Contrave since the third week of January and at the beginning I felt nauseous, but drinking a lot of water and not taking the pills on an empty stomach helped a lot. Now I have trouble sleeping, but it happens only if I take the second pill late in the afternoon. Nevertheless, this medication has helped me to lose 11 pounds and it also helps me to fight the depression I have been suffering from for some time now.
I was prescribed Contrave in October 2016. In a bit more than two months I lost 20 pounds and since then I have been experiencing minimal side effects. Great medication!
Angie077, female – 23 years old.
I had been taking Contrave for a year. I started at 201 lbs and lost 43 lbs without working out at all. The first three months of the treatment were terrible. Permanent headaches, blurred vision, dizziness. When it passed, I started getting satiated very fast. The medication also helped me to quit drinking and fight depression, but I have been off the medication for 6 months now and put on 10 lbs. I need another refill as I cannot fight excessive weight without this drug.
It looks like the medication is working. I have been taking it for a month. I don’t feel any side effects and I can keep my appetite under control. The only problem for me is the high price of the medicine.
I have been taking Contrave for more than a month. It looks like I can control my appetite, but I have lost only 2 pounds. I often feel nauseous, I vomit and often feel lightheaded. I have done some reading and people say that these side effects will go away if you continue taking the drug and that’s what I am going to do as long as I can. I cannot work out as I have little energy. I hope the side effects will go away. Right now nothing helps to stop the nausea, not even huge quantity of water or protein snacks.
It is my 9th day on Contrave. Since the start of the treatment I have been able to control my food cravings. I cannot exercise because I have had a knee surgery, but I started at 177.8 lbs and lost 4.8 lbs up to this day, which is a great result. As I needed some pain-killers after my surgery, I noticed that Contrave blocks all the medications of this kind. I felt slightly nauseous after taking the second pill on the 8th day, but apart from this and some sleep disturbance, haven’t noticed any other side effects.

I have started taking Contrave as a last resort before I decided to resort to surgery. I am in menopause and I find it impossible to lose weight now. After starting the treatment with Contrave, I lost 60 lbs in 16 months without exercising and the side effects I experienced were insignificant. The problems with my blood pressure and blood sugar are gone now, so I recommend this medication to anyone who would like to lose weight and can be patient enough to wait for the desired result.
